UK associations and insurance
Joining one of these is the most useful thing a new UK pilot can do. Most include public liability insurance, and several hold CAA Article 16 authorisations that set the conditions members fly under.

Racing is the fastest way to get better at flying, even if cinematic is your end goal. These organisations run the UK's leagues and events.
